Job Purpose:

The individual in this position will provide the technical, administrative, and budget management support for all simulation operations, including, but not limited to: preparation, basic programming, cleaning, maintenance and repair of computerized manikins and task trainers, software updates, hardware inventory and replacement, and related multimedia products, and lab supply/inventory and budget. This position will serve as the primary technical and administrative support for the Department of Nursings Resource and Simulation Center. The Simulation Operations Specialist will work closely with the Director of the Resource and Simulation Center to meet the simulation needs of faculty and students in the Department of Nursing.

Essential Functions:

  • 30% - Simulation Operations and Support –
    • Serves as simulator operator, programing, testing, and running simulation scenarios with faculty instructors.
    • Ensure that simulation and skills training equipment and facilities are operating properly prior to scheduled use.
    • Provide pre and post simulation setup and teardown of high-fidelity simulation and skills rooms.
    • Supports/assists in simulation role playing applications, props placement, and moulage creation and set up.
    • Operates and provides tech support for computer-based multimedia systems and their components. - (Essential)
  • 15% - Maintenance
    • Develop a regular schedule for and provides preventative maintenance of all manikins, task trainers, and simulation equipment including cleaning and repairing assuring that equipment is always maintained in good working order.
    • Interface with equipment and software manufacturers regarding equipment troubleshooting and system problems and needed repairs.
    • Maintains records of repairs required and completed.
    • Install software and hardware upgrades and maintain functionality of manikin components as directed by manufacturer support. - (Essential)
  • 15% - Supply Management
    • Manage simulation and skills supplies budget including conducting routine inventory updates.
    • Completes all routine supply and equipment purchases including creating purchase orders and utilization of Gonzaga University budget and expense systems, Concur.
    • Provide recommendations for budget adjustments, purchase of equipment, supplies, and materials.
    • Maintain current knowledge of simulation equipment catalogs.
    • Collaborates with and directs work study students to organize, maintain and restock skills lab and simulation suites. - (Essential)
  • 10% - Administrative
    • Collaborates and RSC Director and FNP immersion coordinator to maintain a schedule of activities in simulation suites, skills lab, and exam rooms using the Gonzaga University EMS scheduling system when appropriate.
    • Maintain an electronic inventory of supplies and equipment.
    • Collaborate with RSC Director to prepare an annual report of simulation and skills lab expenses.
    • Assists RSC Director in developing and maintaining student attendance records.
    • Assists with editing simulation faculty and student materials. - (Essential)
  • 10% - Education and Training
    • Train faculty, staff, and simulation customers on the effective use of simulation technologies and equipment.
    • Develop training materials and quick reference guides for end-users. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Faculty & Student Support
    • Conducts Basic Life Support courses for faculty.
    • Coordinated N-95 Fit testing for BSN students as needed. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Management & Training of Work study students
    • Orient and train work study students in the RSC.
    • Manage work study calendar, assign weekly tasks and ensure essential work is being done. - (Essential)
  • Additional Duties as Assigned by the Department

Educational Requirement:

Vocational, Associates, or Technical Degree

Years of Related Experience Requirement:

1 year

In lieu of the educational qualifications, candidates may qualify with equivalent professional experience at a ratio of one year of experience for each year of required education. 

Certifications and/or Licensures:

Able to obtain American Heart Association Basic Life Support Instructor Certification

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with supply management.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, technology, or health-related field OR Healthcare experience (Medical Assistant, Nursing Assistant Certified, EMT, Paramedic, etc.)
  • Associate Degree in Medical Simulation
  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist
  • Medical Simulation Operations Certificate

Physical & On-Campus Requirements:

In-Office Presence - Ability to work on-site in typical office setting and participate in in-person meetings with colleagues: 5 days/week

Standing/Sitting - Ability to remain in a stationary position for a prolonged period: Daily (>75% of time)

Walking - Ability to move about on foot to accomplish tasks: Daily (>75% of time)

The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to offer for this position: $28.89 hr

Pay Range:

Minimum Salary (Non-Exempt): $23.12

Midpoint Salary (Non-Exempt): $28.89

Maximum Salary (Non-Exempt): $34.67
