Job Purpose:

The role of the Academic Advisor II at Gonzaga University is to provide students' guidance to meet degree requirements, navigate University policies and procedures and achieve a meaningful and transformative educational experience with focus on our transfer population. In addition to advising GU students and potential transfers, the Advisor II role assumes training and programming/project implementation responsibilities.

Essential Functions:

  • 50% - Academic Advising
    • Serves as primary advisor for up to 150 undergraduate students with focus on transfer and returning students.
    • Engages with students during major exploration and academic development.
    • Assists with course recommendations and developing academic plans of study that aligns with the students' goals.
    • Provide proactive, comprehensive and exceptional service in monitoring reenrollment and student progress to degree completion which may include informal transcript evaluation and academic probation support.
    • Foster student success, persistence and engagement for students on their academic journey, incorporating best practices in academic advising.
    • Maintain advising notes and degree plans within ZRM - (Essential)
  • 20% - Strategic Campus & Community Involvement
    • Participate in university committees, programs, and events.
    • Instruction of foundation and skill building courses for undeclared students.
    • Engage with local community colleges and other students who may be interested in transferring to GU. - (Essential)
  • 15% - Departmental Leadership
    • Provide thoughtful contributions to the work environment by assisting in the training and development of Academic Advisor I's.
    • Lead process change and development under the guidance of the Director.
    • Serve as informational resource for campus on issues regarding student advising, registration, probation, retention and completion.
    • Lead workshops for students.
    • Be the designated transfer advisor providing expertise for entire department. - (Essential)
  • 15% - New student registration and summer orientation
    • Contribute to efforts for new student registration including transfers.
    • Register assigned students for first semester courses.
    • Lead informational sessions during orientation for incoming students. - (Essential)
  • Additional Duties as Assigned by the Department

Educational Requirement:

Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Experience

Years of Related Experience Requirement:

3 years

In lieu of the educational qualifications, candidates may qualify with equivalent professional experience at a ratio of one year of experience for each year of required education.

  • Ability to work with community partners to develop pathways for local students to transfer to GU.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, and Word

  • Ability to work flexible schedule including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree.
  • Teaching experience.
  • Previous experience working in a Higher Education setting
  • Experience working with transfer students in an academic or admissions capacity.
  • Demonstrated understanding of transcript evaluation and degree planning.

Physical & On-Campus Requirements:

In-Office Presence - Ability to work on-site in typical office setting and participate in in-person meetings with colleagues: 5 days/week

Standing/Sitting - Ability to remain in a stationary position for a prolonged period: Daily (>75% of time)

Walking - Ability to move about on foot to accomplish tasks: Rarely (1%-49% of time)

Lifting/Carrying - Ability to move or transport objects up to a specified weight (e.g., 50 pounds): Rarely (1%-49% of time)

Attention to Detail - Ability to focus on detailed tasks for extended periods: Daily (>75% of time)

The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to offer for this position: $23.07 - 25 Hr

Pay Range:

Minimum Salary (Non-Exempt): $21.58

Midpoint Salary (Non-Exempt): $26.97

Maximum Salary (Non-Exempt): $32.36
