Job Purpose:

Security Officers serve the University in the areas of emergency services, maintenance of public order, coordination of other University services related to the Security function, and crime prevention.


Security Officers support the educational and developmental mission of the Administrative Division, as well as the Catholic, Jesuit and humanistic principles of the University Mission Statement.

Essential Functions:

  • 40% - Patrol campus property and surrounding area
    • Deters criminal activity and maintains visibility
    • Observes and monitors campus conditions and verifies the security of campus facilities
    • Conducts walk-throughs of campus facilities
    • Monitors AEDs/bluelight phones, vehicle maintenance, bicycle registration, and property room.
    • Investigates and documents any violation of the University's policies and Student Conduct Codes.
    • Investigates and documents any abnormal activity
    • Provides key services, escorts and jump starts.
    • Provides assistance to students, staff, and faculty.
    • Retains and documents found property (Crowdfind) 

 

  • 25% - Enforcement
    • Enforces Parking Rules and Regulations Investigates and documents any violation of the University's policies
    • Investigates and documents any violation of the Student Conduct Codes.
    • Investigates and documents any abnormal activity 

 

  • 25% - Services
    • Provides key services, escorts and jump starts.
    • Provides assistance to students, staff, and faculty.
    • Found Property (Crowdfind) - 
  • Additional Duties as Assigned by the Department

Educational Requirement:

High School Diploma or GED

Years of Related Experience Requirement:

  • 1 year
  • In lieu of the educational qualifications, candidates may qualify with equivalent professional experience at a ratio of one year of experience for each year of required education. 

Certifications and/or Licensures:

  • High School Degree or GED
  • Valid driver’s license and excellent driving record. Two or more moving violations, or one serious moving violation may disqualify an individual from operating a university vehicle.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Proven typing ability and word processing skills
  • Must pass extensive background check and physical
  • Availability for university emergencies that may include extended duty
  • Ability to work overtime as required or directed
  • Ability to obtain or possess a basic first-aid and CPR certification.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse groups of people, including students, staff, faculty, administrators, and the general public.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two years college course work in a related field and/or two years work experience in law enforcement/security/public safety.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and ordinances.
  • Work experience in a higher education environment

Physical & On-Campus Requirements:

In-Office Presence - Ability to work on-site in typical office setting and participate in in-person meetings with colleagues: 4 days/week

Standing/Sitting - Ability to remain in a stationary position for a prolonged period: Often (50%-75% of time)

Walking - Ability to move about on foot to accomplish tasks: Often (50%-75% of time)

Lifting/Carrying - Ability to move or transport objects up to a specified weight (e.g., 50 pounds): Often (50%-75% of time)

Attention to Detail - Ability to focus on detailed tasks for extended periods: Daily (>75% of time)

Problem-Solving - Ability to identify and resolve issues effectively: Daily (>75% of time)

The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to offer for this position: $25.00/HR

Pay Range:

Minimum Salary (Non-Exempt): $18.54

Midpoint Salary (Non-Exempt): $21.80

Maximum Salary (Non-Exempt): $25.08
