Salary Range: The salary range is $1,485 per credit for MA/MS; $1,686 per credit for Ph.D. or Terminal Degree.

Job Purpose:

The Department of Sociology and Criminology at Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA invites applications for adjunct instructors for the 2025-26 academic year (1 or 2 courses). We seek candidates with expertise to teach one or more criminology and/or sociology courses. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence and an inclusive learning environment, articulate course offerings they would contribute to the Department curriculum and describe their fit with Gonzaga’s mission.

Essential Functions:

  • Prepare, plan and teach assigned courses 
  • Hold office hours (amount determined in consultation with Department Chair)
  • Create and grade assignments, including submitting grades according to established deadlines 
  • Teach one or two courses in a semester, including introductory-level courses (CRIM 101, CRIM 193, SOCI 101, or SOCI 193) or CRIM or SOCI electives in the candidate’s areas of expertise.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • MA/MS in Criminology, Sociology, Criminal Justice, or closely related field.
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness, including the ability to effectively respond to the academic needs of learners from diverse backgrounds

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching in a classroom setting.
  • Experience using classroom strategies and pedagogies to advance equity and inclusion.

Master's Degree

Physical & On-Campus Requirements:

In-Office Presence - Ability to work on-site in typical office setting and participate in in-person meetings with colleagues: 5 days/week

Standing/Sitting - Ability to remain in a stationary position for a prolonged period: Daily (>75% of time)

Walking - Ability to move about on foot to accomplish tasks: Daily (>75% of time)

Lifting/Carrying - Ability to move or transport objects up to a specified weight: Often (50%-75% of time)

Attention to Detail - Ability to focus on detailed tasks for extended periods: Daily (>75% of time)

Problem-Solving - Ability to identify and resolve issues effectively: Daily (>75% of time)
