Job Purpose:

The Department of Political Science at Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA invites applications to teach, as an adjunct faculty member, one section of Constitutional Law: Institutional Powers offered Fall semester 2025. We seek applicants whose teaching methods and materials intentionally foster the full participation and engagement of our students, with particular attention to students from diverse and marginalized backgrounds.

Additionally, while University service is not a requirement or an expectation for this position, all members of the department are invited and welcome to contribute to and participate in the scholarly life of our community. Essential Functions:

  • Prepare, plan and teach assigned courses
  • Hold office hours (amount determined in consultation with Department Chair) 
  • Create and grade assignments, including submitting grades according to established deadlines
  • Teach one section of POLS 323, Constitutional Law: Institutional Powers

Minimum Qualifications:

  • M.A. (or equivalent) in Political Science or JD.
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness, including the ability to effectively respond to the academic needs of learners from diverse backgrounds.
  • Evidence of the ability to use effective classroom strategies and pedagogies to advance equity, inclusion, and belonging.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching in a classroom setting.
  • Experience using classroom strategies and pedagogies to advance equity and inclusion.

Master's Degree

In-Office Presence - Ability to work on-site in typical office setting and participate in in-person meetings with colleagues: 5 days/week

Standing/Sitting - Ability to remain in a stationary position for a prolonged period: Daily (>75% of time)

Walking - Ability to move about on foot to accomplish tasks: Daily (>75% of time)

Lifting/Carrying - Ability to move or transport objects up to a specified weight: Often (50%-75% of time)

Attention to Detail - Ability to focus on detailed tasks for extended periods: Daily (>75% of time)

Problem-Solving - Ability to identify and resolve issues effectively: Daily (>75% of time)
