Job Purpose:

The Department of Counselor Education invites applications for the position of Lecturer-AT. This position will include teaching twelve credits each term, fall and spring. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of teaching and supervision. Additionally, the ideal candidate will be responsive to the needs of a diverse student body and will possess the skills necessary to provide students of all backgrounds an educational experience that acknowledges, honors, and supports their growth. This position will also be expected to provide leadership for the program of School Counseling.

The Department of Counselor Education offers a Master of School Counseling (M.A.), Master of Marriage and Family Counseling, and Master of Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Each program is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). Students enter these programs with a desire to become exceptional leaders and counseling practitioners who are committed to advancing the greater good. Courses are offered in-person.

Essential Functions:

  • 100%
    • Teach graduate level courses in Counselor Education, equivalent of 24 credits per academic year
    • Serve as the university advisor to all Masters in School Counseling students
    • Serve as the Program Director of the school counseling program in the department and response to program needs including fielding program specific questions, support needs related to student internship experiences, provide consistent check ins and address any concerns related to dispositions and skills.
    • This position will also complete letters of recommendation for students, complete district reference forms, and work with the Director of Certification to ensure all paperwork is completed and submitted to obtain state certification (in WA and other states).
    • Coordinate and facilitate the Professional Educational Advisory Board (PEAB) meetings and attend state meeting related to school counseling certification.
    • Design the program moving forward and execute of any program changes.
    • Collaborate with Graduate Enrollment Management and other campus offices.
    • Participate in information nights and meeting with potential applicants.
    • Collaborate with colleagues in the Department, School of Education, and University.
    • Advocate and provide leadership for the School Counseling program and profession.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Counselor Education from a CACREP-accredited program
    • ABD in related field may be considered, with expectation that the candidate will have degree in hand by July 15, 2025
  • Experience as a certified school counselor
  • Understanding and practice using the ASCA National Model
  • Certified as a school counselor in the state of Washington (or eligible)
  • Record of emerging scholarship (e.g., publications, presentations, grant writing, product design, etc.)
  • Demonstrate commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in teaching, research, and service through the demonstrated ability to work with, and be sensitive to, the educational needs of students and peers from diverse backgrounds
  • Demonstrated commitment to the Gonzaga and department mission statements

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a school counselor
  • Recognized contributions to the field of PreK-12 education (e.g., awards, publications, grants, professional development initiatives, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to help others grow in their capacity to serve students, staff, and families within a complex school system
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully advise and supervise graduate students in school counseling
  • Successful advisement of graduate students
