Job Purpose:

Gonzaga University’s Department of Nursing in Spokane, WA seeks to fill a 9-month, full-time tenure-track faculty position as Assistant Professor beginning fall 2025 to teach in the Department of Nursing. The department is interested in applicants who are experienced educators with a background teaching campus-based didactic courses and practicum/clinical courses. If hired, the candidate must be willing to relocate to the campus location in Spokane, WA area.

Essential Functions:

  • Teach the equivalent of 18 credits per academic year in pre-licensure nursing foundational courses. Teaching load may include didactic and/or clinical. (Summer teaching in the graduate programs is optional and under a separate contract).
  • Advise and guide students to meet degree requirements and to develop professional goals. 
  • Participate on departmental councils/committees as well as School of Health Sciences and University committees. 
  • Pursue relevant professional development, including clinical practice, presentations at professional meetings, research, and publications in peer-reviewed journals to meet requirements for tenure/promotion. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Earned Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree or PhD in Nursing; a doctoral degree in a related field is acceptable if the master’s degree is in nursing.
    • ABDs will be considered if the candidate is expected to have the degree completed by July 15, 2025
  • Master of Science degree in nursing; a master’s degree in a related field is acceptable if the Doctoral degree is in nursing
  • Valid, unencumbered Washington state RN license, or multi-state license prior to hire.
  • Demonstrated scholarship (e.g., clinical practice, presentations, and/or publications) and demonstrated ability to articulate a specific agenda for scholarly work and/or research.
  • Minimum one year record of teaching nursing students including didactic and practicum courses.
  • Record of supporting students with diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated knowledge about cultural competence in academic and health care settings.
  • Minimum of three years recent experience providing direct patient care as a registered nurse.
  • Evidence of creating inclusive learning environments that address the needs of diverse learners, including students from groups that have been traditionally underrepresented or marginalized in Nursing.
  • Evidence of curriculum development, program planning, evaluation, assessment, and accreditation processes.
