Job Purpose:

This position is responsible for the development and administration of the strength and conditioning program for Women's Basketball and other assigned teams. This includes, but is not limited to, individual and sport performance plan development and implementation, nutrition education and administrative support, collaboration with sport coaches and athletic trainers, and administrative duties in compliance with all university, conference and NCAA regulations. This position plays a critical role in enhancing athletic performance, reducing injury risk, and promoting overall health and wellness of Gonzaga Student-athletes as part of Zags360.

Essential Functions:

  • 70% - Strength and Conditioning Coaching
    • Develops, implements and supervises approved comprehensive strength and conditioning programs for assigned sports to optimize student-athlete performance • Provide individual, small group and team instruction related to sports performance and recovery.
    • Works closely with athletic trainers to ensure strength and conditioning programs align with treatment plans for injured student-athletes.
    • Participates in the on-campus recruitment activities of prospective student-athletes, as requested.
    • Works closely with individual coaching staffs and student-athletes to understand performance goals and expectations of their student athletes.
    • Coordinates work with coaches and other support staff for purposes of scheduling.
    • Ensures the completion of administrative tasks and functions.
    • Ensures adequate maintenance and appearance of all areas under supervision. Ensures equipment is maintained at all times.
    • Ensures all operations are conducted with safety as the first priority, in accordance to the University’s safety policies and procedures.
  • 30% - Nutrition Education and Administration
    • Develop and implement individual and team nutrition education.
    • Planning, execution, and monitoring fueling strategies and support.
    • Reporting and documentation of student-athlete progress.
    • Assist with the evaluation of nutrition programming and the monitoring of student-athlete nutrition needs.
    • Nutrition budgetary management for impact and efficiency.
    • Referral any potential disordered eating concerns to appropriate sports medicine staff. 
  • 5% - NCAA Compliance & Administration:
    • Employees of Gonzaga University’s Athletic Department must comply with all NCAA rules and regulations and acknowledge this compliance as a part of an evaluation process.
    • Annually participate in Title IX and other required training. 
  • Additional Duties as Assigned by the Department

Educational Requirement:

Bachelor's Degree

Years of Related Experience Requirement:

2 years

Certifications and/or Licensures:

  • NCAA Accredited Strength & Conditioning Certification (e.g. NASM Performance Exercise Specialist certification, CSCS Certification, or CSCCa’s SCCC Certification).
  • Accredited Nutrition Certification
  • CPR and First Aid certification (required upon hiring)

Skills & Abilities:

  • Demonstrated success in program development, training and oversight
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a diverse university, community and athletic department environment
  • Demonstrated organizational and administrative skills
  • Strong communication skills to effectively work with a diverse work force and student-athlete population
  • Ability to travel (domestic and international) throughout the academic year, as requested
  • Pick-up, carry and move items up to 50lbs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in exercise physiology or related field
  • Collegiate-level playing and/or coaching experience
  • Proven professional success with nationally-ranked collegiate programs

Physical & On-Campus Requirements:

In-Office Presence - Ability to work on-site in typical office setting and participate in in-person meetings with colleagues: 5 days/week

Standing/Sitting - Ability to remain in a stationary position for a prolonged period: Often (50%-75% of time)

Walking - Ability to move about on foot to accomplish tasks: Daily (>75% of time)

Lifting/Carrying - Ability to move or transport objects up to a specified weight (e.g., 50 pounds): Often (50%-75% of time)

Problem-Solving - Ability to identify and resolve issues effectively: Daily (>75% of time)

The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to offer for this position: $68,471 - $85,588 / year

Pay Range:

Minimum Salary (Annualized 12 months and 40 hours/week): 68471

Midpoint Salary (Annualized 12 months and 40 hours/week): 85588

Maximum Salary (Annualized 12 months and 40 hours/week): 102706
