Job Purpose:

As a dedicated Leave and Benefits Management Specialist at Gonzaga, you play a pivotal role in fostering an environment where our employees thrive. You will expertly navigate and administer leave programs, including FMLA and ADA, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. Essential Functions:

  • 60% Leave & Accommodations -
    • Process leave requests and accommodations in collaboration with employees, HR partners, and managers
    • Provide in-person consultations on leave policies, accommodations, and benefits-related inquiries.
    • Assist employees with L&I (Labor & Industries) and PFML (Paid Family and Medical Leave) state enrollment systems.
    • Facilitate return-to-work transitions, ensuring compliance with policies and regulations.
    • Manage workers' compensation cases, maintaining accurate records and coordinating return-to-work processes.
    • Assess and recommend accommodations for employee workspaces to promote a safe and productive environment.
  • 20% Benefit Program Support -
    • Provide expert guidance on employee benefits, including health, dental, vision, retirement, tuition waivers, and wellness programs.
    • Conduct in-person trainings and presentations, including new employee orientations.
    • Offer direct support to employees and managers, addressing benefits-related concerns.
  • 20% Compliance -
    • Ensure compliance with laws and regulations through clear communication and policy implementation.
    • Maintain accurate benefits records in adherence to privacy regulations, including HIPAA.
    • Manage leave tracking systems for alignment with organizational and regulatory requirements.
  • Additional Duties as Assigned by the Department

Educational Requirement:

Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Experience

Years of Related Experience Requirement:

3 years

In lieu of the educational qualifications, candidates may qualify with equivalent professional experience at a ratio of one year of experience for each year of required education.

  • Experience with leaves and accommodations and employment benefits.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, and Word
  • Proficient in English written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Demonstrated time management, punctuality, and priority-setting skills
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Ability to interpret and apply complex policies and regulations
  • High analytical capability, with ability to identify issues, compare data, and resolve discrepancies
  • Ability to work flexible schedule including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working in higher education.
  • Experience using Banner.
  • Experience with Washington L&I.

Physical & On-Campus Requirements:

In-Office Presence - Ability to work on-site in typical office setting and participate in in-person meetings with colleagues: 5 days/week

Standing/Sitting - Ability to remain in a stationary position for a prolonged period: Daily (>75% of time)

Walking - Ability to move about on foot to accomplish tasks: Daily (>75% of time)

Lifting/Carrying - Ability to move or transport objects up to a specified weight (e.g., 50 pounds): Often (50%-75% of time)

Attention to Detail - Ability to focus on detailed tasks for extended periods: Daily (>75% of time)

Problem-Solving - Ability to identify and resolve issues effectively: Daily (>75% of time)

The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to offer for this position: $33.27 Hr

Pay Range:

Minimum Salary (Non-Exempt): $33.27

Midpoint Salary (Non-Exempt): $41.58

Maximum Salary (Non-Exempt): $49.90
