Job Purpose:

Supervise and carry out all aspects of technical support for the art studios, faculty, and students.

Essential Functions:

  • 15% - General Technician Duties
    • Coordinate studio needs and activities that support the curriculum, including but not limited to preparing the studios for use at the beginning of each semester, ensuring effective and safe utilization of the studios during the semester, and coordinating the end of the semester clean up and closing of the studios for winter and summer break.
    • Work with and report to faculty and staff to maintain a safe, organized, and clean learning environment.
    • Manage work study in coordination with faculty.
    • Assist with the installation and teardown of exhibitions.
    • Work with the program assistant for exhibition PR.
    • Build projects when needed.
    • Make sure ventilation is working adequately. 
  • 15% - Technician duties - Printmaking area:
    • Maintain the printing presses.
    • Keep exposure unit operational.
    • Make sure pressure washer is functioning.
    • Keep airbrush and compressor functional.
    • Make sure plumbing and electrical is working.
    • Make sure ventilation is working adequately.
    • Assist to build simple equipment like vacuum tables for screen printing.
  • 30% - Technician duties - Ceramics area:
    • Maintain and repair equipment such as gas and electric kilns, potter’s wheels, clay mixer, pug mill, and slab rollers.
    • Coordinate repairs and maintenance issues with Plant Services.
    • Inventory materials/supplies and reorder when needed.
    • Formulate clay and glazes for studio use.
    • Make sure ventilation is working adequately.
  • 15% - Technician duties - Woodshop area:
    • Maintain equipment.
    • Coordinate student use of woodshop and safety training of shop equipment.
    • Coordinate repairs and maintenance issues with Facilities Services.
    • Keep area organized and clean. 
  • 15% - Technician duties - Painting/Drawing areas:
    • Build stretcher bars and work with the painting students to build their own.
    • Build projects as needed.
    • Maintain the studio spaces and any equipment. 
  • Additional Duties as Assigned by the Department

Educational Requirement:

Bachelor's Degree

Years of Related Experience Requirement:

1 year

In lieu of the educational qualifications, candidates may qualify with equivalent professional experience at a ratio of one year of experience for each year of required education. 

Certifications and/or Licensures:

Valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree. Experience with and confidence in handling artworks, operating and maintaining woodshop equipment, and building pedestals, shelves, and walls for art installations. Experience working in an art gallery. Experience in the material needs of classes in order to support faculty in the purchase of supplies and equipment for the studios, particularly ceramics and printmaking.

The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to offer for this position: $20.00 - $22.37/hour

Pay Range:

Minimum Salary (Non-Exempt): 20.00

Midpoint Salary (Non-Exempt): 23.60

Maximum Salary (Non-Exempt): 27.23
