Salary Range: The internal salary range is $1,485/credit for MA/MS; $1,686/credit for Ph.D. or Terminal Degree.

Job Purpose:

The Department of Special Education and Applied Behavior Analysis (SpEd & ABA) seeks an experienced individual to teach ASL courses. Courses to be taught are at the undergraduate level and may include beginning through intermediate level instruction including deaf culture. Instructors should promote using language in applied settings. The department is committed to exemplifying the values of deaf/hard of hearing cultural dynamics.

Essential Functions:

  • Teach (in-person on campus) college level undergraduate course(s) focused on interacting respectfully with deaf/hard of hearing individuals within our global society.
  • Grade assignments and provide feedback to students.
  • Submit mid-term and final grades on or before the semester deadline via Canvas.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Deaf Education, Master's in Special Education with emphasis in Deaf/Hard of Hearing, Master's in Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education, Master's in Adult Education with emphasis in Deaf/Hard of Hearing, or other closely related field or Bachelor's degree and otherwise qualified.
  • Commitment to teaching utilizing precepts from deaf/hard of hearing cultural contexts.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching others at multiple experience levels.
  • Experience using active responding techniques to increase language development.
  • Special consideration will be given to qualified individuals who are native or near native ASL proficiency and have cultural expertise.

Educational Requirement:

  • Master's degree or bachelor's degree with extensive experience in ASL and deaf culture and understanding of requirements for institutions of higher education.

Physical & On-Campus Requirements:

In-Office Presence - Ability to work on-site in typical office setting and participate in in-person meetings with colleagues: 5 days/week

Standing/Sitting - Ability to remain in a stationary position for a prolonged period: Daily (>75% of time)

Walking - Ability to move about on foot to accomplish tasks: Daily (>75% of time)

Lifting/Carrying - Ability to move or transport objects up to a specified weight: Often (50%-75% of time)

Attention to Detail - Ability to focus on detailed tasks for extended periods: Daily (>75% of time)

Problem-Solving - Ability to identify and resolve issues effectively: Daily (>75% of time)
