Job Purpose:
The Department of Biology at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington, is seeking instructors to teach introductory laboratory and lecture courses for majors and non-majors. The successful candidate will have the enthusiasm, classroom presence and skills to engage students in active learning and should be committed to pursuing excellence in teaching and promoting an inclusive learning environment. Ideal candidates will have experience teaching and mentoring undergraduate students of all backgrounds.
Teaching opportunities may include: our introductory Biology lecture course Information Flow in Biological Systems, its accompanying inquiry-based phage discovery laboratory course for first-year students, and our non-majors scientific inquiry labs. The laboratory sections have established curricula and staff support for acquiring and distributing supplies for students. The laboratory coordinator and teaching faculty work together to provide a common, high-quality learning experience across all sections of the courses. The successful laboratory instructor will be responsible for leading lab sessions; distributing, collecting, and grading assignments; submitting grades; and being available to students for office hours for one hour per week per course. The lecture instructor for B105 will be responsible for all aspects of the course design and delivery, but the department provides ample support in coordination with other instructors teaching the course.
The Biology Department is committed to building an intellectually vibrant and culturally inclusive community for our students, faculty, and staff. Adjunct instructors are welcome at department meetings and functions and are encouraged to reach out to other department faculty for assistance and support.
