Job Purpose:

The Department of Political Science at Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA invites applications for a nine-month, fixed term, non-tenure track lecturer position in American politics and political theory for the 2025-2026 academic year. Position may be renewable contingent on department and core curriculum needs. The teaching load is the equivalent of 24 credits per academic year (typically three (3) unique course preparations/semester). The successful candidate will teach sections of an introductory American politics course, upper division course(s) on the Congress and/or the presidency, and one or more upper division political theory classes with prioritization being political thought of the US founding or theories of democracy more broadly. The candidate may also have the opportunity to teach on topics related to their research specialization. We seek applicants whose teaching methods and materials intentionally foster the full participation and engagement of our students, with particular attention to students from diverse and marginalized backgrounds.

Essential Functions:

  • Teach an equivalent of 24 credits per academic year (typically three unique course preparations per semester), including introductory course on American politics, courses required for the political science major and minor, and upper division courses in the candidate's areas of expertise. 
  • Support the department, university, and discipline through service and other forms of academic citizenship. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Political Science or international equivalent (ABD will be considered if the degree will be conferred by July 16, 2025).
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness, including the ability to effectively respond to the academic needs of learners from diverse backgrounds.
  • Evidence of effective use of classroom strategies and pedagogies to advance equity, inclusion, and belonging.
