Job Purpose:

The Department of Nursing is seeking adjunct clinical faculty to provide clinical instruction and supervision to students in the BSN program. Clinical faculty may also mentor clinical staff in the Designated Education Units (DEUs) of community partner facilities who are working directly with BSN students. The successful candidate will have the enthusiasm, clinical presence, and practical expertise to engage students in active learning and assessment and should be committed to pursuing excellence in teaching and promoting an inclusive learning environment. Ideal candidates will have experience teaching and mentoring graduate students of all backgrounds, including those who are traditionally underrepresented in Nursing. Essential Functions:

  • Coordinate Medical-Surgical/ clinical practicum experience for BSN students 
  • Collaborate with the Lead Faculty and Nurse Manager of the clinical unit to assure a quality clinical practicum experience for students 
  • Teach up to a 16-hour/week medical-surgical clinical practicum that requires availability Wednesday through Friday and an occasional Saturday 
  • Participate with other course faculty in a 2-hour clinical conference each week
  • Grade required coursework 
  • Providing formative student evaluations/feedback 
  • Complete student’s final clinical evaluation
  • Keep the Lead Faculty informed of any concerns regarding student progression or clinical performance 
  • Mentor the clinical staff in the DEU who are working directly with the BSN students in their role as clinical instructors/mentors -
  • Serve as ambassador for Gonzaga University School of Health Sciences 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in nursing
  • Minimum of 3 years of current experience in medical-surgical and/or oncology nursing
  • Unencumbered Washington state RN license

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Science degree in nursing
  • Previous clinical teaching experience

In-Office Presence - Ability to work on-site in typical office setting and participate in in-person meetings with colleagues: 5 days/week

Standing/Sitting - Ability to remain in a stationary position for a prolonged period: Daily (>75% of time)

Walking - Ability to move about on foot to accomplish tasks: Daily (>75% of time)

Lifting/Carrying - Ability to move or transport objects up to a specified weight: Often (50%-75% of time)

Attention to Detail - Ability to focus on detailed tasks for extended periods: Daily (>75% of time)

Problem-Solving - Ability to identify and resolve issues effectively: Daily (>75% of time)
