Job Purpose:

The Infrastructure Administrator II - Network position is responsible for maintaining and supporting software applications based on frameworks and requirements given by Infrastructure Engineers and others. They collaborate with business stewards to define business requirements and build solutions to suit. The specialist will use best practice implementations for security, business continuity, and performance. As an Infrastructure Administrator II this position will receive guidance from Engineers, Architects, senior engineers and management to ensure quality deployments. This position however will lead teams, advise, 2nd tier support, Support Center (tier 1) in incident resolution and monitoring of infrastructure performance.

Essential Functions:

  • 50% - Infrastructure Administrator II
    • Network - maintain, document and support structured cabling.
    • Maintain, document and support the lifecycle of physical, wireless network and telecom infrastructure (switching and routing).
    • Maintain, document and support network and telecom performance monitoring and tuning to meet or exceed customer requirements.
    • Provide SME support for internal and external customer projects (ITS, Plant, Athletics, Guests, etc).
  • 30% - Administrator planning and development -
    • Maintain and support public and private cloud infrastructure: IaaS networking for multiple cloud providers, cost management for cloud operations.
  • 10% - Innovation and Automation
    • Monitoring and alerting storage infrastructure (SAN, NAS, Cloud object and block storage).
    • Identity management, cost management, develop unique applications or processes that generate more value to our customers and the university as a whole.
    • Present ideas for projects that could reduce cost or improve efficiency. Initiate continual improvement activities and cycles.
    • Build automated processes that would alleviate manual or individual intervention: automatic resolution of known issues, automated deployments through workflows, automated risk mitigation.
  • 10% - Other duties as assigned

Educational Requirement:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Experience

Years of Related Experience Requirement:

  • 3 years
  • In lieu of the educational qualifications, candidates may qualify with equivalent professional experience at a ratio of one year of experience for each year of required education.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to configure, maintain, troubleshoot, and support wired and wireless network infrastructure, including switching, routing, structured cabling, and telecommunications systems.
  • Working knowledge of public and private cloud environments, including IaaS networking, cloud connectivity, resource management, and cost optimization across cloud platforms.
  • Ability to monitor network and infrastructure performance, analyze system health and capacity, and implement improvements to ensure reliable and efficient service delivery.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose complex infrastructure issues, provide Tier 2 technical support, and assist support teams with incident resolution.
  • Ability to identify opportunities for automation and develop workflows or processes that reduce manual intervention, improve efficiency, mitigate risk, and enhance service reliability.
  • Knowledge of industry best practices related to network security, identity management, risk mitigation, system availability, and business continuity.
  • Ability to document infrastructure configurations and procedures, communicate technical concepts effectively, collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders, and provide subject-matter expertise for projects and initiatives.

The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to offer for this position: $77,440-$83,000

Pay Range:

Minimum Salary (Non-Exempt): 37.24

Midpoint Salary (Non-Exempt): 46.53

Maximum Salary (Non-Exempt): 55.84
