Job Purpose:

Supports the athletic programs of the University by providing athletic training services and strength and conditioning coaching to men's and women's cross country and track programs.

Essential Functions:

  • 55% - Athletic Training
    • Provides athletic training coverage for practices and events primarily for Men's and Women's Cross Country and Track teams •
    • Serve as Rehab Coordinator for non-surgical and long-term cases specifically with assigned sports but also aid the current Sports Medicine staff in focusing on competing athletes, being more efficient with working hours by assisting in long term rehab cases and management.
    • Lead return-to-play and return-to-run progressions in collaboration with Director of XC/Track as well as case management for all injuries and illnesses of both teams.
    • Coordinate care with team physicians and external providers (as needed).
    • Contributes through departmental policies, procedures, and actions to University-wide gender equity and cultural diversity efforts and to foster a climate of multi-cultural understanding and appreciation.
    • Maintain certification through the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification (NATABOC), as well as remain a member in "good standing" of the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA), maintains Washington State Athletic Trainer License.
  • 5% - NCAA Compliance
    • Employees of Gonzaga University's Athletic Department must comply with all NCAA rules and regulations, and acknowledge this compliance as part of an evaluation process.
  • 25% - Strength and Conditioning Coach
    • Serve as the primary strength and conditioning coach for the Men's and Women's Cross Country and track programs.
    • Design and implement sport-specific performance programming to optimize student-athlete performance.
    • Work closely with the coaching staff to understand performance goals and expectations of their student-athletes.
    • Integrate injury prevention, load management, and recovery strategies.
    • Collaborate closely with coaching staff to align training and competition demands.
    • Assist both facilities during peak times and coverage opportunities of multiple teams across both facilities.
    • Ensures all operations are conducted with safety as the first priority, in accordance with the University's safety policies and procedures.
    • Assist with coverage gaps across Olympic sports in both Health and Performance areas as needed as unforeseen life events and complicated cases arise.
    • Enhance integration between Sports Medicine and Performance teams for resource management, administration, and operational efficiencies.
  • 10% - Administration
    • Participates in the on-campus recruitment activities of prospective student-athletes as requested.
    • Ensures the completion of administrative tasks and functions Participate in leadership training and team-building activities as requested.
    • Coordinate with coaching staffs, strength & conditioning coaches and relevant support staff for the purposes of scheduling workouts, meetings and education.
    • Annually participate in Title IX training. Maintain required licenses and certifications.

Educational Requirement:

  • Bachelor's Degree

Years of Related Experience Requirement:

  • 1 year
  • In lieu of the educational qualifications, candidates may qualify with equivalent professional experience at a ratio of one year of experience for each year of required education. 

Certifications and/or Licensures:

  • BOC Certification
  • Eligible for an athletic training license in the state of Washington
  • CSCS certification or other Sports Performance certification
  • Current CPR/AED for Healthcare Providers certification (or equivalent)

Skills & Abilities:

  • Energetic and motivated self-starter with strong organization skills, ability to meet deadlines and problem solving skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to relate and work well in a diverse university, community and athletic department environments
  • Ability to communicate in an effective manner, in writing and verbally, with numerous constituencies
  • Ability to be detail-oriented in a fast-paced high pressure environment
  • Demonstrated working relationships with administrators, support staff, medical community, coaches and patients/student-athletes
  • Knowledge and/or a working understanding of medical records, insurance and evaluation following HIPAA and FERPA
  • Excellent administrative, organizational, time management, computer application, communication and personnel management skills
  • Ability to travel, work evenings and weekends as needed for position duties

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One year post-graduate Athletic Training and Sports Performance experience

The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to offer for this position: $54,477

Minimum Salary (Annualized 12 months and 40 hours/week): 51774

Midpoint Salary (Annualized 12 months and 40 hours/week): 64717

Maximum Salary (Annualized 12 months and 40 hours/week): 77660

Minimum Salary (Non-Exempt): 24.90

Midpoint Salary (Non-Exempt): 31.11

Maximum Salary (Non-Exempt): 37.33
