Job Purpose:

The Music Department at Gonzaga University, in partnership with the Theatre and Dance Departments, invites applications as adjunct faculty to serve as the Guest Assistant Music Director for its upcoming production of Urinetown. This collaborative role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a multidisciplinary performing arts initiative within a vibrant academic community.

The Guest Assistant Music Director will support the Music Director in all aspects of musical preparation and performance. Responsibilities include assisting with and leading pit orchestra rehearsals on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and conducting the pit orchestra during performances. The successful candidate will demonstrate a high level of musicianship, professionalism, and the ability to work effectively within a collaborative artistic team.

Essential Functions:

  • Teach and conduct the pit orchestra for Urinetown on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. 
  • Support the Music Director in all musical preparation and rehearsals. 
  • Attend production rehearsals as scheduled to ensure continuity between the orchestra and stage performance. 
  • Lead the pit orchestra during performances. 
  • Collaborate with vocal and stage directors to maintain musical integrity and ensure successful execution of the production. 
  • Submit grades according to established deadlines. 

Minimum Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree in music.
- Experience teaching voice

Preferred Qualifications:

- Strong background in musical theater performance, and conducting
- Experience with pit orchestras and/or musical theater accompaniment preferred.
- Ability to work collaboratively with directors, performers, and staff.
- Availability for scheduled pit rehearsals and production performances.

Educational Requirement:

Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Experience
