Job Purpose:

Supports the athletic programs of the University by providing training and treatment of student athletes. Assists in managing the operations of the training room.

Essential Functions:

  • 90% - Primary Athletic Trainer for assigned teams Treats athletic injuries occurring to varsity athlete that does not require a physician’s services Evaluates all injuries for determination of treatment Accompanies any injured athlete to see a physician and discusses treatment Collaborates with professional medical staff in rehabilitation program development for student-athletes in assigned sports to assist in their recovery Communication with strength and conditioning staff, coaches for assigned sports and student-athletes in regards to injury prevention, rehabilitation and return to play plans Works with all athletes and coaches in the prevention of athletic related injuries Coordinates travel with other trainers to assure proper coverage for all programs Coordinates with other trainers all practice schedules to assure proper coverage Obtain and review all incoming and returning Student Athlete sports medicine forms within record keeping system for purposes of sports participation clearance and eligibility Contributes through departmental policies, procedures, and actions to University-wide gender equity and cultural diversity efforts and to foster a climate of multi-cultural understanding and appreciation Maintain certification through the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification (NATABOC), as well as remain a member in “good standing” of the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) - (Essential)

Educational Requirement:

Bachelor's Degree

Years of Related Experience Requirement:

1 year

In lieu of the educational qualifications, candidates may qualify with equivalent professional experience at a ratio of one year of experience for each year of required education. 

Certifications and/or Licensures:

NATA Certification in Athletic Training
Current CPR certification
Valid driver's license

Skills & Abilities:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1-3 years progressively responsible experience as an ATC
Energetic and motivated self-starter with strong organization skills, ability to meet deadlines and problem solving skills
Strong interpersonal skills; ability to relate and work well in a diverse university, community and athletic department environments
Ability to communicate in an effective manner, in writing and verbally, with numerous constituencies
Ability to be detail-oriented in a fast-paced high pressure environment
Demonstrated working relationships with administrators, support staff, medical community, coaches and patients/student-athletes
Knowledge and/or a working understanding of medical records, insurance and evaluation following HIPAA and FERPA
Excellent administrative, organizational, time management, computer application, communication and personnel management skills
Ability to travel, work evenings and weekends as needed for position duties

Preferred Qualifications:

Division I Athletic Training experience
Demonstrated ability to motivate and work effectively with a diverse group of student-athletes and work effectively with a diverse staff.
Advanced degree or certification in the field of athletic training, strength and conditioning and/or sports nutrition

In-Office Presence - Ability to work on-site in typical office setting and participate in in-person meetings with colleagues: 5 days/week

Standing/Sitting - Ability to remain in a stationary position for a prolonged period: Often (50%-75% of time)

Walking - Ability to move about on foot to accomplish tasks: Often (50%-75% of time)

Lifting/Carrying - Ability to move or transport objects up to a specified weight (e.g., 50 pounds): Often (50%-75% of time)

Attention to Detail - Ability to focus on detailed tasks for extended periods: Daily (>75% of time)

Problem-Solving - Ability to identify and resolve issues effectively: Daily (>75% of time)
