Job Purpose:

This combined position serves as 50% Student Affairs Health & Counseling Services (HCS) Physician and 50% Athletics Department Lead Team Physician. The HCS Physician provides comprehensive outpatient care to the general student population, addressing physical and mental health needs. The Athletics Lead Team Physician serves as the primary medical authority for the university’s athletic department, overseeing the health and safety of student-athletes which includes clinical care, injury prevention, return-to-play decisions, and administrative oversight of the athletic care network. The physician ensures independent, athlete-centered medical care in alignment with NCAA requirements.

Essential Functions:

  • 40% - Clinical Care & Patient Services, Health & Counseling Services:
    • Provide high-quality, evidence-based medical care to a diverse student population in a university health clinic setting.
    • Diagnose, treat, and follow up on acute and chronic illness, injuries, and preventative care.
    • Devise, implement, and evaluate care plans using clinical judgement based on holistic patient assessments.   
    • Collaborate with mental health providers on integrated care for students with behavioral health needs.   
    • Prescribe medications and manage treatment plans in accordance with current clinical guidelines.   
    • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR).
    • Perform a variety of examinations and procedures, including Gynecologic exams; Orthopedic assessments; Suturing; Draining abscesses; Pre-participation sports physicals; Travel/study abroad physicals; Immunization consultations; etc.
  • 10% - Other Duties as Assigned, Health & Counseling Services:
    • Campus Engagement and Outreach. Compliance, Quality Improvement and Professional Development.
  • 35% - Medical Care and Oversight, Athletics Department: 
    • Provide medical care and coordination of care to approximately 350 student athletes, including diagnosis, treatment, prescription drug management and rehabilitation of injury and illnesses.
    • Conduct and/or review comprehensive pre-participation physical evaluations.
    • Make final decisions on medical clearance and return-to-play status in consultation and conjunction with athletic training staff.
    • Oversight of concussion safety protocol.
    • Ensure Compliance with current NCAA health and safety legislation.
    • Provide on-site clinics for student-athletes in athletic department.
    • May travel for limited postseason competitions, as needed.
    • On-call night and weekend hours may be required. 
  • 15% - Other Duties as Assigned, Athletics Department:
    • Oversight of medical care provided by certified athletic trainers.
    • Coordinate regular meetings with Athletics staff. 
    • Collaboration with Athletic Healthcare Administrator, orthopedic specialists, coaches, administrators and Student Health Services.
    • Maintain accurate documentation. 
  • Additional Duties as Assigned by the Department

Educational Requirement:

Terminal Degree

Years of Related Experience Requirement:

3 years

Certifications and/or Licensures:

Board Certified, Washington State Medical License, CPR certified

Preferred Qualifications:

Eligible for primary care specialty of internal medicine or family medicine.
Student Health Experience.
Experience in collegiate or professional sport medicine.
Fellowship training in sports medicine.

Physical & On-Campus Requirements:

In-Office Presence - Ability to work on-site in typical office setting and participate in in-person meetings with colleagues: 5 days/week

Standing/Sitting - Ability to remain in a stationary position for a prolonged period: Daily (>75% of time)

Walking - Ability to move about on foot to accomplish tasks: Daily (>75% of time)

Lifting/Carrying - Ability to move or transport objects up to a specified weight (e.g., 50 pounds): Rarely (1%-49% of time)

The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to offer for this position: $150,000 - $180,000 per year

Pay Range:

Minimum Salary (Annualized 12 months and 40 hours/week): 146700

Midpoint Salary (Annualized 12 months and 40 hours/week): 195600

Maximum Salary (Annualized 12 months and 40 hours/week): 244500
