Job Purpose:

The Digital Scholarship Lab (DSL) in Foley Center Library is seeking a part-time lab-based Adjunct Instructor to support the research of faculty and students in the DSL as well as instruct the students who staff the lab throughout its available hours. This position reports to the Digital Scholarship & Publishing Librarian and collaborates with faculty and staff from other departments/schools to develop quality outreach and programming for the campus on all the tools and software supported in the DSL. The adjunct lab coordinator partners with library for maintenance of equipment, supplies, and the physical space of the lab in order to support the growth of instruction and scholarship occurring there. This adjunct role is focused on developing the point-of-need instruction and planned programming that supports students and faculty utilizing this new space for their research and scholarship. Additionally, this adjunct role will serve as a direct mentor and trainer to a group of 6+ student employees who regularly staff the space.

This is a fixed-term position. This position is scheduled up to 20 hours/week and is not benefits eligible.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop student employees into peer trainers and research consultants. - (Essential)
  • Instruct students, faculty, and staff in developing digital scholarship techniques, utilizing DSL software and equipment. - (Essential)
  • Plan and execute workshops and outreach for campus on myriad DSL tools and methods. - (Essential)
  • Develop publicly available learning resources for asynchronous use by campus community. - (Essential)
  • Collaborate with Library Leadership on the daily operation of the Digital Scholarship Lab, including further development of the lab offerings, budget, scheduling student employees and service hours, equipment and inventory management, and safety compliance. - (Essential)
  • Collaborate with Library Leadership on development and implementation of policies and procedures for Digital Scholarship Lab usage to ensure efficient and equitable access. - (Essential)

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree with experience in digital scholarship tools and methods
Advanced computer skills, such as high-performance computing or coding (Python, Arduino, R)
Strong customer service skills
Ability to work effectively without direct supervision.
Experience in using Adobe Creative Cloud
Familiarity with Digital Humanities platforms and methodologies, such as digital mapping, text-mining, data visualization, or similar

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree with experience in digital scholarship tools and methods
Previous experience working with students in a higher education setting.
Experience with 3D printers, microcomputing, laser cutters, etc.
Experience in lab safety and repairing or maintaining mechanical and/or electrical instruments.
Familiarity with CAD, such as Blender, Autodesk Fusion, or similar.
Familiarity with project management practices.
